Dear Friends,
I enjoyed being in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Council of Bishops meeting and for the first week of General Conference. Fort Worth is an easy city in which to move around. I saw many friends from across the United States and from other countries. (For example, Bishop Benjamin Justo of the United Methodist Church in the Philippines was at the same University of Geneva/World Council of Churches program that Sally and I attended in 1978-79. I had good conversations with some seminary friends that I had not seen since leaving Boston University School of Theology in 1978.) It's good to be home, however.
This Sunday, eight individuals will be joining Minnetonka United Methodist Church through profession of faith, having completed two years of confirmation classes. This will take place during the 9:30am worship service. My sermon is entitled, "More than Chump Change" and will be based upon Matthew 16:24-28.
Lectionary Readings for Sunday, May 4, Confirmation Sunday, are:

Psalm 47
Ephesians 1:15-23
Luke 24:44-53 (The 11:15am Jazz Service will emphasize this text.)
Sunday, May 11, is Pentecost Sunday, Mother's Day, and Festival of the Christian Home. (Also, I think it's opening day of fishing season, but that really doesn't have anything to do with the church's liturgical seasons.) Lectionary Readings are:
Acts 2:1-21
Psalm 104:24-34, 35b
1 Corinthians 12:3b-13
John 7:37-37
This will be a very festive worship service. Wear red, orange, and yellow clothing to church! [Come on, don't tell me you haven't seen T-shirts that did something like this to the words for colors!]
