Minnetonka United Methodist Women (UMW)  

A community of women whose purpose is to know God, to develop a supportive fellowship and to participate in mission through projects in the local and global ministries of the church.  All women are invited to take part in any of the UMW activities.

 

Coming Events

The Language of Poverty - Sunday, September 26, 2010, 4:00 PM – -  An informative and thought provoking presentation by a representative of Emma Norton Services, who will explain how this concept is addressed at Emma Norton Residences. 

Coffee and light snacks will be served and an offering will be taken for Emma Morton.  There will also be an opportunity to bring paper goods and cleaning supplies for the agency.

A significant amount of support for Emma Norton Services comes from the United Methodist Churches in the Twin Cities area.

 

Rummage Sale – October 7 - 9, 2010-  clothing,toys, collectables, games, books, tools, small furniture items, kitchen items,  anything in good, clean condition. Donations can be brought to the church on October 3 - 6.  Volunteers needed. 

 

Bake Sale - Sunday, December 12, between church services.  Cookies, bars, cakes, rolls, breads, jams & jellies, candy.  Volunteers needed.

 

Ongoing Activities

Lydia Circle meets the second Tuesday of the month, 10:00 a.m. at church for presentations on UMW topics of the year.  See church bulletin for current topic of discussion, or contact Susannah Dodson.  Everyone is welcome to attend any circle meeting.

United Methodist Women Reading Program - information on the UMW Book Club can be found on the shelf in the Church library with an interesting array of books  

Recommended book for August:  A Love Affair with India  is the story of Mabel Jones and Eunice Jones Matthews.  They are the wife and daughter of E. Stanley Jones, a famous missionary and theologian of the Methodist Church in the early and mid 1900’s.  “Whatever your interest--lives of faithful Christians, the missionary experience, life in India, church leadership, contact with fame and power--you find it in this delightful biography.” wrote Robert Williams, General Secretary of the General Commission on Archives and History, United Methodist Church.

 

Operation Classroom School Uniforms - Kits are available to make school uniforms for girls in the United Methodist Operation Classroom schools in Sierra Leone. Pick up yours at the sign up table in the coffee area of church.

Minnesota Conference Annual UMW Meeting:  October 2, 2010. There will be many coming to the Conference Annual Gathering for October 2 in Grand Rapids. That is a beautiful city in our beautiful north country!! It is a nice weekend journey for a carload. There is no bed & breakfast but hotel space is not expensive when you room with friends...come on Friday and enjoy the sights in the city and attend a special Friday eve gathering to learn how to make "green" cleaning products.
