Legacy Fund Grant Application

Bringing Ideas to Life

Do you have an idea for a new ministry initiative but lack the funding to make it happen? Are you interested in making a financial contribution toward future ministries? The Legacy Fund was established to provide the financial support needed to make new ideas and ministries happen!

Purpose

The purpose of the MUMC Legacy Fund is to fulfill the vision of Minnetonka United Methodist Church by expanding programs and taking advantage of special opportunities, particularly in the areas of education, music, outreach, facilities, and leadership.

Goal

The goal of the Legacy Fund is to preserve and grow investments while allocating a portion each year toward grant requests to enhance ministry outside of the annual operating budget. The Legacy Fund is funded through gifts, not annual pledge fund contributions for normal operations.

How Might Legacy Dollars Be Used?

  • Education - Bringing in guest speakers or presenters for adult education, expanding our kids and student ministries
  • Music – Hiring guest musicians or purchasing new music to accommodate worship themes and help meet spiritual goals
  • Outreach - Expanding our community connections and increasing our visibility
  • Facilities and Technology - Providing for unexpected capital expenditures and upgrades, innovative technology for ministry
  • Administration and Leadership - Providing education and opportunities for spiritual and professional (as applicable) leadership for staff and/or congregants

The Process

  1. To have your idea considered for a Legacy Fund Grant, fill out an application (accessed by clicking on the button at the top of the page) and submit your completed grant application to the church office.
  2. The Legacy Fund Team reviews Legacy Fund grant applications to ensure eligibility and offers recommendations to the Servant Leadership Board.
  3. The Board considers applications as they come in and determines allocation of the available funds. The Servant Leadership Board will communicate decisions within 45 days of the application’s submission.
  4. Grant monies are distributed on a reimbursement basis, as expenses are incurred. Grant dollars not utilized within a reasonable amount of time will be considered for reallocation.

Grant Eligibility

  • Grant applicants must be current members or constituents of Minnetonka United Methodist Church.
  • Grant proposals must adhere to the mission, vision and values of Minnetonka United Methodist Church
  • Each completed application must include a proposed budget and the signature of a church committee or team leader.

Other Considerations

  • Legacy Fund dollars are not intended to be an ongoing source of funds for the support of any one ministry or initiative.
  • The availability of assets will be dependent upon the balance of the fund and investment performance.
  • In general, grant funds are not available for previously expended finances, but are intended to fund future endeavors.
