Who, What, When, Where, Why, How?

Series: I Didn’t Learn THAT in Sunday School

February 06, 2022 | Rev. Carrie Binnie

Passage: John 3:16-17

“Jesus died on the cross to save me from my sins” is a phrase many of us have heard or even grew up hearing/saying ourselves. But have you ever stopped to ask what it actually means or to inquire about the implications behind it? People have been striving to formulate theological answers to questions like these for the past 2,000 years. Today, we will explore what they have come up with as we take a look at some of the more popular theories of atonement and consider what it is about Jesus and his story that truly saves.

Series Information

“Because we’ve always done it that way” isn’t just a phrase we hear about how a church operates or the traditions they uphold. Something similar could often be said about traditional interpretations of Scripture or long held beliefs. Beginning January 16, we will be exploring biblical passages and theological concepts that have often been understood from one perspective… until now.
