Breakthrough Prayer

Sermon Series - Sharing Our Stories: A Brand New Day

Holy God, Each of us has a story to tell. Unfortunately, we spend so much time concerned with our thoughts and our wants that we forget to root ourselves in your story. But today is a brand-new day! May your Holy Spirit break through the stories we’ve been telling and living, that we might focus on discerning your dreams for us as individuals and as a church. May we embrace your presence in our lives and strive to share it with others in caring, inclusive and Spirit-filled ways this day and every day. Amen.

Sermon Series – Go for the Gold!

Creator God, Enable me to run with perseverance the race that is set before me. Sustain me as I train and seek to be strengthened by the guidance of Christ, my coach. Align my will with yours, and harness within me the confidence, courage and fortitude to live, love and serve as the disciple you call me to be. Amen

Sermon Series – The Art of Neighboring

Inviting God, I want to be a good neighbor. Help me to love like Jesus and extend hospitality to all. When I experience hesitation or anxiety, break through and grant me a humble yet courageous confidence. Replace my feelings of judgment with your grace, and help me to offer a caring, inclusive and Spirit-filled presence to the people around me. In the name of the Christ, I pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – Enough

Gracious God, You are my source of life and hope. To you, I bring my utmost gratitude. Today I ask that you cultivate a sense of contentment within me. Enable me to discover joy through simplicity and generosity. Replace my desire for more with the satisfaction that comes from knowing that there is enough. I am enough. You are enough. Amen.

Sermon Series – Close to Home

Emmanuel, I give you thanks for the birth of the one who changed and continues to change the world. Draw me close in this season of waiting and anticipation. Break through my busyness and present me with opportunities to bless others with the same hope, peace, joy and love I receive in you. May the light of Christ shine within me and may I be an active participant in illuminating the world with the gospel. In the name of the Christchild I pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – I Didn’t Learn THAT in Sunday School

Holy Creator, Since the dawn of creation you have blessed your people. We come before you with grateful hearts and an earnest desire to grow in our likeness of you. Break through our study of Scripture and subject matter that, for many of us, has been taught or adopted without significant discussion or questioning. Open our minds to the lifegiving and transformative work of your Holy Spirit in our lives as we seek to recommit ourselves to your work of love in this new year. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – The Chosen

Before a word was on my tongue, Lord God, you knew me and called me by name. You claimed me as your beloved and your love for me has never failed. Help me to place my trust in you, to ground my faith in your promises and to live into my identity as your chosen one. For you have summoned me to this time and space; calling me to live as your disciple and participate in the transformative work of Christ in the world. Break through all excuses and distractions and ready me to prepare and continue the way of the Lord. Amen.

Sermon Series – Encanto

God of Love and Light, In this Easter season, we give you thanks for the promise of new life. You are the ultimate example of love incarnate and we seek to live more and more like you each day, sharing our many gifts with the world around us. Enchant us with the breakthrough power of your Holy Spirit, that we might be reconciled to our family members and friends, find hope where there previously appeared to be none and discover our purpose through the miracle of resurrection. In the name of the risen Christ, we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – Courageous

God New Beginnings, You have given us this day, this life out of your abundant generosity. Help us to make the most of it by living and loving with courage in the midst of uncertainty, joy, pain, questioning and contentment. Empower us to rise and to help others rise as we seek to live your extraordinary vulnerability and grace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – Taste & See

Bountiful God, We thank you for our many blessings – family and friends, resources and sustenance of all kinds. Empower us to tend the seeds you’ve planted within and around us for the flourishing of your kingdom. Guide us, that we might harvest opportunities to taste and see your goodness in new and sustaining ways. May your Spirit be the leavening agent in our daily lives, prompting us to rise to your likeness and nourish others with your grace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – The Stuff of Legends

Boundless Creator, You create out of nothing. You make a way when no way seems possible. You are the author of the universe. And still, we question that which cannot be proved scientifically, and we are hesitant to speak of our faith with others. Instill in us the confidence to trust that our faith in you is nothing to hide. Rather, let it be a catalyst for the work of your Holy Spirit in this world! So break through our hesitation, our doubt, our dismissiveness, and remind us that you, the God of biblical legends, are our God. Your grace is enough to sustain us in the midst of uncertainty and uplift us in times of both despair and joy. In you, life can always be found, and miracles are possible. This, dear Lord, we believe. This, dear Lord, help us to live. Amen.

Sermon Series – Sheroes of the Bible

God of All Time, Space, People and Places, We thank you for the witness our biblical forebearers provide. As we focus on the inspiring faithfulness of women who have gone before us, we pray that you would open our minds to new perspectives and alternative ways of thinking. Free us from the stereotypes and assumptions we may be harboring, perhaps even without knowing it. Help us to encounter the people around us, all of whom are your beloved children, with caring, inclusive and Spirit-filled compassion and respect. In the name of the one who transcends race, gender and all social constructs, we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – Beyond Talk

Dearest Christ, The world around us is changing all the time. When we are constantly trying to keep up, we often find ourselves struggling to actively live our priorities. Realign our focus with yours. Help us to go beyond talk and really walk the walk as your committed disciples. May all we say and do today bring you glory. Amen.

Sermon Series – A Weary World Rejoices: Christmas Around the Globe

Holy Child, As we prepare for your arrival once more, break through our schedules, excuses and holiday preparations to deepen our understanding of and respect for our neighbors, far and near. Gift us with hope and birth within us a love that pursues the joy and peace you came to this world to impart. With awe and Advent expectation we pray, Amen.

Sermon Series – Building Beloved Community

God of All Tribes, Time and People, Like an artist behind a canvas, you add color to our lives with the richness of creation. We know that each person we encounter reflects a divine stroke of your image. And yet, so many of us paint over the fullness of your beauty with whitewashed hues of injustice... When we struggle to identify your voice in the accent of our neighbor or recognize your face in the complexion of a stranger, break through our limited perspectives with a vibrant dash of your Spirit. Fill our palette with humility and an awareness of your dream for an inclusive, diverse and life-giving world. Humble our hearts and train us to be illustrators of beloved community in this time and place. Right here. Right now. In the name of the Jesus, who always sided with those on the margins, we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series – Resurrection Encounters

Risen Christ, We are grateful for the new life and eternal love you extend to us each day, and we want to share this restorative truth with the world. Enable us to encounter your Spirit and trust in the promise of resurrection. Empower us to offer the lifegiving hope we find in you with our neighbors. With resurrection joy, we pray. Amen.

Sermon Series - Close to Home

Emmanuel, I give you thanks for the birth of the one who changed and continues to change the world. Draw me close in this season of waiting and anticipation. Break through my busyness and present me with opportunities to bless others with the same hope, peace, joy and love I receive in you. May the light of Christ shine within me and may I be an active participant in illuminating the world with the gospel. In the name of the Christchild I pray. Amen.

Sermon Series - Courageous

God New Beginnings, You have given us this day, this life out of your abundant generosity. Help us to make the most of it by living and loving with courage in the midst of uncertainty, joy, pain, questioning and contentment. Empower us to rise and to help others rise as we seek to live your extraordinary vulnerability and grace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Spies and Secret Agents

God of Mystery and Discovery, You know when I lie down and when I wake. You know the condition of my spirit this day and every day. Help me to remember that there is no secret big enough and no mistake costly enough to revoke your love for me. Enable me to open the file of my life marked “confidential” and share its contents with you. Lead me to trust that nothing will happen to me today that you and I together can’t handle. With this desire for complete trust in you, I ask that your hopes and dreams would become my prayers. Use me and guide your church as we seek to uncover and release your grace in and for the world. Amen.
